Life is changing...

My life is changed in the last week, that's the reason why I didn't update any of my works: I was very busy to smile... :)

In the meanwhile I was sculpting my models, my girlfriend sculpted my daughter Aurora. An outstanding sculpting masterpiece [and the rendering too]!

And there is a second good news:

Milestone has chosen me as a 3D artist for their very next AAA games. I'm very happy right now :)

The Rider WIP - modeling and Zbrushing

This is my last personal work, and it could be for mature audience. She is a sci-fi rider, an inline skater just a bit "unusual".

Just a simple technical exercise to test a new head topology and to go deep into human anatomy. Modo and Zbrush

Dotard's Escape is finally available on the App Store and will be available on the Android market in few days.

So it's a good time to share with you all the work I did for this new Lux et Umbra game [if you want to know more about the game or Lux et Umbra, visit and subscribe the community page HERE]. I don't  lie at all when saying that this was one of the funniest work I did in my life.

It's a really a huge amount of work, and it's still in progress, so I'm not going to show you everything [for the moment].

AR3NA redux - point of situation

Aaaaand still here. I just can't find spare time to finish the model. My job, my family, my house, my parents, Skyrim, Orcs must die, Gears of war, chocolate snacks [really, incredible waste of time to find hidden chocolate snacks at home...] and so on. How do you pretend I can finish the murmillo in a few days?

So, this is the point:

AR3NA redux - Arm plates

I'm working on the rest of the metals, different materials [different types of iron] to gain in realism. This is the armor on the right arm.

Downloadable Portfolios

I have done a lot of works during my career as a 3D generalist, but I've always been reluctant to show only a small number of best work.

In the other hand I do not want to waste your time with hundreds of works in a single page or document. For this reason I decided to divide my works so that you can choose to watch only what you are really interested in.

In the very first part of my portfolios page you can now download my works divided by type [including my resume]. The first downloadable document is dedicated to my characters work.

Highlight my fire!

I'm glad to see I've earned two highlights, one following the other, on the homepage of CharactersForum.com, one for AR3NA [Murmillo] and another for Dotard's Escape art. I'm very, very happy :)

AR3NA redux - belt and strips

I started the surfacing of the Murmillo from leather. Belt, strips and laces.

I know some part are a little too dark, but I will fix in the final scene with all other materials

Modo 601: first impressions

I wrote a "first impressions review" about Modo 601 for 3DAgain.com guys [italian version here >>]. I tested it for a mounth and this is my considerations:

In late February of this year, Luxology has released, with a pleasant surprise from customers who expect just the announced previews, Modo 601, a version which is synthetic to define ‘critical’ for the software company.

’Critical’ for two reasons. The first is that its users was extremely disappointed by release of 501, a version that in a sense was a rewrite of the program, strengthening and opening it to the market beyond any imagination, but that did not meet the continuous needs in terms of features missing.
The second reason is that Modo 601 has finally become a complete package filling all the holes.

It's not all, as well as provide much-needed and missing modules, Luxology has gone beyond giving us incredible upgrades of some existing modules.

We are probably talking about the most substantial update Modo has ever had, so the list of additions and improvements is too long to list in this article. I am therefore forced to omit the description of minor innovations and leave them to find out for yourself.
The vast majority of the innovations are focused on adding missing modules, such as character animation, and on the improvement of the rendering engine, never so productive even in our desires.

Let's start with the order, however, from the module that has made Modo famous from its first release, modeling, and proceeding gradually to the latest additions.

AR3NA redux - skin, first approach

This is a first approach with the skin surfacing. I'm using the new skin material from Modo 601 and I found it is not ready to use as expected. It's a good base to work with, but must to be adapted depending on the model you are working on [and the parameters to be tweaked are many]. Skin textures need to be improved, the model misses a normal map and the specularity has not yet been touched. Texturing with Modo and Photoshop.

AR3NA redux - anatomy of a gladiator

A funny night in zbrush reshaping the body of my Mirmillo. Just a few more touches and this task will be done.

AR3NA - redux

More than 2 years ago I build a fast promotional image with my friends for the old THR3aD project. We made a complex scene in about 3/4 days, too fast to take care of the details.

Now it's time to finish the scene and give it the right dignity it deserves. I started by revisiting the character, a Mirmillo [a type of Gladiator during the Roman Imperial age] and his anatomy. A fast rigging can make strange things on an organic model...

So, let's start with the various roles:
Guglielmo "Larsen" Rovere - hard surfaces and environment - Cinema 4D
Francesco "XATMO" Sternativo - rigging - Maya
Me - everything else - Modo, Maya, Zbrush
